Veloren's latest update (Thursday, September 11th)
I haven’t really ever made a post about an update for Veloren updates, but this one gets us a few nice things, so I thought I’d comment on it and them…
-
All beds now heal you if you lie in them. That applies to bedrolls and stuff too it seems. Beds can be a handy way to top up health for free in a town without changing your spawn point.
-
Particle effects like smoke now move with the wind instead of drifting lazily skyward during a hurricane. No real effect but it looks nice.
-
Ores and gem nodes in caves have nametags again, so you can see what they are just by getting close to them. This got broken months ago and now we have a fix.

New pathfinding code helps npcs not get stuck quite so much. Hopefully. :)
And for us North Americans, there’s a new PvE server in Oregon. It’s not official but it’s run by a pretty nice guy. I’m on the east coast and get about 80-90 milliseconds ping to it, so better than the official server in Germany. I’ll continue on both though. Lower ping is great, but I have a lot of friends on the official server. If you’ve never used anything besides the official server, just start airshipper, click the blue Server Browser button, and look for Veloren WestUS. Click it, then the big green Connect to selected server button. You’ll still need an account on veloren.net though.
There’s also a new Veloren Blog entry here.
And there was an update to worldgen code so the world has refreshed. The map itself stays the same, but many other things (dungeons, town names, town layouts, etc…) can change, and did. Most players seem to be gravitating to the town of Gbitaka as the new main popular town, but I’ve headed around the lake to Amraucord because the airship glitch is still a thing and making Gbitaka kind of annoying to be in for a long period. As with anything else, your mileage may vary.
And finally a few videos by assorted players…
